The Damned World

Fairytale never exists..

Minister Mentor (MM) Lee Kuan Yew says the stress of his wife’s illness is harder on him than the stress he faced during his years in politics.

MM Lee spoke of his wife, Kwa Geok Choo, 89, in an interview on the New York Times’ Saturday Profile.

The couple met each other when they were law students in London and have been together for 61 years.

He shared that his most difficult moment is at the end of each day as he sits by the bedside of his wife who has been unable to move or speak for more than two years.

“She understands when I talk to her, which I do every night,” he said. “She keeps awake for me; I tell her about my day’s work, read her favourite poems.”

“I told her, ‘I would try and keep you company for as long as I can,” before adding, “I’m not sure who’s going first, whether she or me.”

MM Lee added that while he tries to keep busy, from time to time in idle moments, his mind goes back to when they were up and about together. To calm himself, he meditates for 20 minutes at night.

“The problem is to keep the monkey mind from running off into all kinds of thoughts,” he said. “A certain tranquility settles over you. The day’s pressures and worries are pushed out. Then there’s less problem sleeping.”

The New York Times report also noted how younger people worry him with their demands for more political openness and a free exchange of ideas, secure in their well-being in modern Singapore.

“They have come to believe that this is a natural state of affairs, and they can take liberties with it,” he said. “They think you can put it on auto-pilot. I know that is never so.”

The kind of open political combat they demand would inevitably open the door to race-based politics, he said, and “our society will be ripped apart.”

Singapore’s eldest statesman also reflected on his political career and said he wasn’t perfect.

“I’m not saying that everything I did was right but everything I did was for an honourable purpose,” he said. “I had to do some nasty things, locking fellows up without trial.”

One of the most important things you can do for yourself -- and your future -- is to set aside money for saving. Opening a savings account is a good way to start. A habit of saving can help you achieve financial freedom, since you will be prepared for emergencies, as well as prepare for the future that you want. In order to help you better understand the process, here are 10 things you should know about saving your money:

[In Pictures: 8 Painless Ways to Save Money.]

1. Compound Interest Really is Magic

You should realize that compound interest really can help you build your savings faster. This means that the earlier you start, the more your savings will grow. Additionally, realize that the best yield matters, so you should look for high yield money market account or savings.

2. It's OK to Start Small

Many people think they need to start with $1,000 for an emergency fund, or make a big contribution to a retirement account. This is not true. It is OK to start small. Figure out what you can afford now, and get in the habit of saving. Just make sure to increase the amount you save as your income increases, and/or as you pay down debt.

3. You Need Savings Goals

Carefully think about what you want your savings accounts to accomplish, and set goals. Having goals for your money will help you better prepare, and it gives you something to work for. Then you need to create a plan to help you reach those goals.

4. Different Accounts Accomplish Various Purposes

There is more than one kind of savings account. You should have different accounts for different goals. Your emergency fund should be distinct from your retirement account, and savings for short term goals should separate from both of those. Consider the type of account you need for each of your savings goals.

[Visit the U.S. News Personal Finance site for more insight and money management tips.]

5. Savings Should Be Part of Your Budget

You will be better off if you make your savings part of your budget. Think of your savings contributions as an "expense" -- and an important one at that. Put "paying yourself" at the top of your financial priorities list.

6. Cash is Not Always King

When it comes to saving, cash is not always king. While you want your emergency fund and short term savings goals to benefit from the liquidity of cash, more long term savings endeavors need something with a higher yield. Long term, you need to beat inflation, so that your buying power isn't eroded during retirement. Consider investments like stocks and bonds for long term savings goals, like retirement.

7. For Retirement, Max Out Tax-Advantaged Accounts First

One of the ways to get ahead with your retirement savings is to invest. Before you start using a regular investment account, though, make sure you have maxed out your tax-advantage first. Putting money into a 401k and an IRA (including Roth options) before you move to other types of investment accounts is a good idea, since you will see tax advantages.

8. Sometimes You Can Save for Others

If you want to help others, you can do so by saving for others' futures. College savings accounts, trust funds and accounts for charitable organizations can help you leave a legacy, and feel good about what you do with your money. And in some cases, you end up with a tax break.

9. Spending is Never Saving

Many people talk of "saving" when they get a "good deal." However, you really are not saving in such cases; you are spending money. If you do not need the item, or do not even really want it that much, then the spending aspect is even more pronounced. Do not confuse getting a good bargain with actually saving money.

10. It is Possible to get Too Carried Away

While you want to save for the future, it is possible to get too carried away with saving money. Remember that life is for living as well. Strike a balance so that you are saving enough to protect you during an emergency, and to help you toward a fulfilling retirement, but do not lose sight of today.

Summer break is currently taking residence at the moment and as a student it should be when we got the most time at our disposal. In the past, I had been eagerly looking for a holiday job and work throughout summer’s stay. The more fortunate people will be talking about holidays and vacations. Many of them got to fulfill their desires for fun and exciting programs to make up for the entire school term especially the examination fatigue incurred.

Although summer had just arrived, I already know this is most probably the best summer so far. It is different. I started off summer with the best holiday in my life and followed by pleasurable leisure. I didn’t dive into all the job search centers, agencies and websites frantically looking for a job.

There are also loads of interesting movies this summer. So far there were Ironman, Prince of Persia, Sex in the City, Ip Man, Shrek Forever, Robin Hood.
More are coming along like Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm Street, Eclipse, Marmaduke, Nanny Mcphee, Killers, Predators, Cats and Dogs, Ip Man prequel, etc.

The only thing that is spoiling this summer is the summer weather. The intense heat. I hate the heat seriously but I am okay as long as the temperature doesn’t go pass 31 degrees. Last night was cooling enough with temperature hovering around 30.3 degrees on my room thermometer and it was one of the days I used my fan rather than the air conditioner for some time.

I hope everybody is enjoying this summer and may the gods give us a little leniency on the temperature. Cheers =)

Yes I noticed that my blog is several centuries outdated and I haven’t been updating. Well, those closer to me will know that I had been occupied the last few months by examinations and stuffs and recently I visited Hong Kong for vacation. I have to say it is the best holiday I had in my life. Definitely the most enjoyable as well. I shall leave that elaboration for my upcoming blog about the joyous trip.

Meantime I will update more on my recent events. I had been on hiatus from training for nearly 4 months and I just returned from a training camp. The purpose of the camp, well as least to me, was to jump start the fitness once again from such a long break. Realistically for everybody, having relegated from exercising this long is not advisable at all. Well I was punished with agonizing body aches regardless.

However, training camps are always abusive and exhausting, they never believe in ‘Progressive Trainings’. Therefore perhaps they are more prone to injuries and paralyzing sores. The major problems at the moment are a left arm which I am unable to straighten and blisters on my palms. The training camp was a fairly average experience if I am not constantly stuck in Tropical.

Oh yes! Speaking of tropical, the weather is simply unbearable. The heat and humidity is simply insane. It takes literally a while to get tanned out under the sun let alone a whole day of training. If it weren’t for my sun block, I think I will bond well with Indians without knowledge of the Tamil language.

However I can’t understand the constant buzz of another person not in the club. Well but I am sure it will expire in the near future. The weird camaraderie some people gave is also deemed jejune in my opinion but innocuous for my attention.

Well there are things I am more interested in and they are beautiful. Catch you guys soon with more updates!

=)

Updates will resume after 11 May 2010. See you soon :)

Cracking your knuckles does not actually hurt your bones or cause arthritis. The sound you hear is just gas bubbles bursting.

Cracking your knuckles (or any of your joints) can have therapeutic benefits. When you crack one of your joints you are pulling the bones that are connected at the joint apart from each other. This process stimulates your tendons, relaxes your muscles, and loosens your joints. Chiropractors do this for spinal joints when your back is sore and stiff, but you can do this on your own for your knuckles, toes, knees, neck, etc.

Unfortunately, there can be too much of a good thing. Cracking your knuckles will never lead to arthritis (despite what your mom keeps telling you), but scientists have discovered that it can cause tissue damage in the affected joints. Knuckle-cracking pulls your finger bones apart which stretches your ligaments. Too much stretching of your ligaments will cause damage to your fingers akin to the arm injuries sustained by a baseball pitcher who throws too many pitches. In addition to making your hand really sore, this ligament damage can also result in reduced grip strength.

How does this work? Your joints, the places in your body where you can bend, are where your bones intersect and are held together by ligaments. These joints are surrounded by a liquid called synovial fluid. When you stretch your ligaments by pulling the bones apart to crack your knuckles a gas in the synovial fluid escapes and turns into a bubble. This process is called cavitation. Cavitation ends when the bubble eventually bursts, producing that popping sound we know and love. After that, your joints won't be able to crack for another 25-30 minutes while the gas gets reabsorbed into the synovial fluid.

When was the last time you went through a period of stress? Can you remember the way your body reacted? Chances are you didn't feel quite like yourself. Health experts say that stress can come with some pretty surprising symptoms-from forgetfulness to nausea to skin rashes. Is your body sending you an S.O.S. that you shouldn't ignore? Read on to find out if stress is taking a toll on you-and what you can do to reverse the effects.

1. Tweaked Muscles
The pain in your neck that you attributed to long hours at the computer could actually be a symptom of stress. "Stress definitely affects our musculoskeletal system, resulting in tight, contracting muscles and/or spasms in muscles," explains Elizabeth Lombardo, PhD, MS, PT, a psychologist and physical therapist in Wexford, Pennsylvania, and author of A Happy You: Your Ultimate Prescription for Happiness. "It gets us ready for fight-or-flight, although unlike our cavewomen ancestors, we don't actually need our bodies to react like this." If you're experiencing what you believe to be stress-related muscle symptoms, try this exercise: Take 5 to 10 deep breaths and focus on relaxing the tense area of your body, says Dr. Lombardo. For the neck, try gentle neck rolls or enlist your husband to give you a quick shoulder rub.

2. Eye Twitching
Have you ever had an eye twitch? The often temporary condition can be annoying and worrisome, and for some, can be triggered by stress. "This condition is known as blepharospasm," explains Debbie Mandel, MA, a stress and wellness expert and author of Addicted to Stress: A Woman's 7-Step Program to Reclaim Joy and Spontaneity in Life. "Closing your eyes and visualizing your happiest place on earth will help." Also, avoid stress-related eye issues by giving your peepers a break now and then. "If your eyes get stressed from detailed work at the computer, 'stretch' them every 20 minutes by looking out the window at a larger landscape," suggests Mandel. "If you have no view, close your eyes and imagine a panorama."

3. Ragged Cuticles
Do you have ragged, unkempt cuticles or nails? Their condition could be the result of a stress-induced nervous habit. "Nervous habits like nail-biting are how we channel our stress by distracting ourselves with what is known as oral satisfaction," says Mandel, adding that picking nails and cuticles is also a common way for women to deal with feelings of stress and anxiety. If you take stress out on your hands, consider keeping a stress ball in your desk drawer-something you can squeeze or knead when on the phone with a difficult client, for instance. This helps "squeeze the stress out of your body," says Mandel.

4. Cavities
We all know that slacking off on dental hygiene is the first way to get cavities, but stress can also be a culprit, say experts, especially when you're grinding your teeth at night or during the day. Mandel explains teeth grinding, which many women do, as "chewing over the day's stressors." The problem, however, is that this bad habit can erode dental work, damaging your teeth and making them more susceptible to cavities. Mandel suggests redirecting your anxiety to pen and paper. "Set aside time to write down your problems to see them objectively in black and white, and then jot down some solutions," she says. But, she adds, "If teeth grinding is severe, see a dentist about getting a mouth guard."

5. Rashes
It sounds strange, but your skin can be a pretty good barometer of your stress level. "Stress can cause a rash, usually raised red spots or hives on the stomach, back, arms and face," notes Dr. Lombardo. "While we don't know why it occurs, some experts believe that it has to do with the adverse effects of stress on the immune system-histamine is released, causing these itchy bumps." Deep breathing may keep rashes at bay, or from developing in the first place. So, next time you feel your stress level rising, place your hand right above your belly button. "Every time you inhale, you want your hand to rise; with each exhale, it lowers. Take 5 to 10 deep breaths periodically throughout the day."

6. Nausea
Have you ever been worried about a loved one's (or your own) health condition, Googled it and suddenly felt nauseated? "Stress can upset the stomach, and nausea can be a byproduct of worry," says Mandel, who warns against playing "Google MD." Worrying about your health or a loved one's is normal, but obsessing about it is unhealthy. If your anxiety is causing nausea, try this trick that Mandel swears by: Let tepid water run over your fingers; it's believed to keep nausea at bay.

7. Sleepiness
Feeling sluggish? It could be stress. "Stress hormones cause your body to surge with adrenaline and then crash into sleepiness," says Mandel. "Stress will also ruin the quality of your sleep, so you wake up tired and irritable." What to do? Go to bed earlier, says Mandel, or catch a 30-minute nap midday, and don't feel guilty about doing so. "There is great productivity in rest," she says. "You come back more focused!"

8. Forgetfulness
Ask any woman who is trying to do it all and she'll admit to a few slip-ups in the memory department (forgotten appointments, lost keys, missing cell phone-ring a bell?). "Research shows that chronic stress can literally shrink the size of the hippocampus, which is responsible for some memories," says Dr. Lombardo. "Luckily, its size will go back to normal once your stress level reduces." Want to keep your brain functioning at an optimal level? Combat the first signs of stress with exercise, she says: "Go for a walk, run up a flight of stairs or dance around to the newest Black Eyed Peas tune." Exercise, she adds, keeps your brain sharp and may even help you be more prepared for future stressful moments.

9. Confusion
You can't decide what to make for dinner, what to wear to work or which exit to take off the freeway. Stress causes distraction and lack of focus, says Mandel. "Stress hormones lodge longest in the brain," she says. To restore focus, take a walk, she says. "Move the stress out of your body by exercising large muscle groups like the legs. You will gain clarity. Walk out in the light and you'll reset your natural rhythm while you move out the stress. Sunlight helps the body release serotonin to improve mood, and vitamin D helps you improve your immune system-a great perk."

Yesterday, my dad handed me an overdue bill reminder, a bill that I should have paid last month. After checking up my bank account with i-banking, I realized that I had missed out that bill and have not pay it. Resulting in a little screw up in my finances. Therefore I need to hold back on my wallet for a short period of time and go easy on everything.

Hate it when problems are because of money. It really feels as if money is the biggest restriction to my life. Ever since I engaged in a bank loan, I am always constantly worrying about the big M. Money. Although I still believe that the world is not all about money, my faith is diminishing. That is why, I decided to go the part time route. Hopefully that resolves all my problems.

Recently, a tune of an old song just flashed in my mind.

After thinking hard, the title of the song came to me. I went around the net to try to find this song. Unfortunately, it is kind of old school and the only place I could find that song is youtube.

In the end, I got the song from LA. She made an effort to help me look around for it. I am really grateful for it. Thank you LA very much for the song =)

Here it is.

This was one of the hits during secondary school days. Very retro look in the video. I think it is a 1998 song. So effectively, it has been around for more than a decade.

Let the music heal your s lyrics by Bravo all stars

Oh if someone writes a song with a simple rhyme
Just a song where is feeling show
And if someone feels the same about the simple song
Oh sometimes you can hear them sing

Music gives you happiness and sadness

But it also, also heals your soul

Let the music heal your soul

Let the music take control
Let the music give you the power to move any mountain

Oh, if someone plays piano with some simple chords

So melodic and endearing, too
Oh if someone plays guitar with the old piano
And maybe you can hear them sing

Music gives you happiness and sadness

But it also, it also heals your soul

Let the music heal your soul

Let the music take control
Let the music give you the power to move any mountain

Let the music heal your soul

let the music take control
let the music heal your soul

Let the music heal your soul

Let the music take control
Let the music heal your soul
Let the music take control
Let the music heal your soul
Let the music take control
Let the music heal your soul
Let the music take control
Let the music heal your soul
Let the music take control

A gift of effort & thought is worth more than an expensive gift. My belief and that is why this song is special.

Yes, loyal readers will notice that the top right hand corner had a change of picture. Every picture has their history, story or message to tell.

This picture;
had stayed on the corner long enough that I lost notice of it. Recently, I was adjusting some elements of the layout before I laid focus onto it again.

That was when I realized, it is time to tear it down.

Some may thought 'Wow this guy must be a fan of My Chemical Romance'.
No, I am not. This picture was only there to tell what it is telling. That's all there is to it.

Welcome the new picture.

"So Close, So Far"

I wake up all alone, somewhere unfamiliar
I've been gone so many days, I'm losing count
And when I think of home, I see your face
I know I have to wait

We're so close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be there with you
So close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be back with you

I miss hearing your laughter
And all the little things
Forgotten what it's like to hold you
Cause where I am right now so unforgiving
it's numbing everything

We're so close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be there with you
So close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be back with you

So promise
No matter how long it takes for me
To get back to you
you'll wait for me
I promise
No matter how far away I go
I'll come back for you
Just wait and see

I miss being at home
I miss your face
don't think I can wait

We’re so close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be there with you
So close, yet so far
it's tearing me apart
What I would do to be back with you

I promise
it's tearing me apart
No matter how far away I go
I'll come back for you
I promise
it's tearing me apart
What I would do
What I would do
What I would do to be there with you

"Nobody's Home"

I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Open your eyes and look outside, find the reasons why.
You've been rejected, and now you can't find what you left behind.
Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can't find.
She's losing her mind.
She's fallen behind.
She can't find her place.
She's losing her faith.
She's fallen from grace.
She's all over the place.
Yeah,oh

She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah
She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah

I have to admit I am a light sleeper. Simple things can really give me the best awake stimulant. A couple of things apparently. One of it was my multi-socket plug fell apart. I could have bought a new one. But thinking of going to the stalls specifically just to get one, makes it kind of wasting time. So therefore I decided to dismantle it with my screw driver and see what is wrong inside causing the switches to go cranky.

It was not easy. After removing the screws, the moment I opened it up, all the small parts and bits of metal fell out before I can remember where they are supposed to be. The problem of the switches was just a small misplacement of a part. But the process to fix it was tedious. The bits that fell out had nothing to do with the switch problem but I have to figure out how to put them back as well. Fortunately, I managed to put them all back in and still get it to work. Took me about 30 minutes.

Another problem was way more difficult. There were some similarities with the multi-socket plug though. It started with one small switch. And when I attempted to open it, everything fell apart. The difference is, I can’t replace the parts back in. It appeared that the damages were old wounds. And I somehow believe it was beyond my level to repair them. I felt so useless. And because of that, sleeping is not going to be an easy task. Because no matter which direction it goes, I am sure things are already damaged and I already know next...

Hope was lost once but things still were difficult. I witnessed some others, so naturally, so simply, so easily and so happily. But why is it never like that in my life? I merely did not tell the problem fast enough leading to this adversity.

Alright.. I am wondering away.. Pointless to rant. I guessed it is just my life right?

Cheers to the damned

Lovely evening view :)

I have been writing a new chapter for my story lately. Something that would take everything to a brand new direction, deviating from my lifestyle. This new chapter is to end the battle between me and my biggest menace once and for all.

Ever since the previous episode, things strayed off course and ended fruitlessly. However, that episode had been buried deep away but there is still a menace to jostle. Combating was tiresome and relentless. Although so far I survived, every battle was a near death experience. This chapter was drafted to purge the menace completely.

Though many of my peers are doing this, it is completely foreign to me as I have never experience before. It is quite a big decision. There are of course things that I dwell on. Things that I don't want to leave. But if I don't do this soon, I might end up in serious troubles. So I guess sacrifices are necessary.

However whether or not I am able to publish, is still unknown. Everything would have to be executed after my exams.

Something that inspired me to proceed:
"If you dwell on what you've left behind, you will never be able to focus on what lies ahead"

I really hope that things will go smoothly. Best of luck to me.

Update to an earlier post in February : Alice in Wonderland

An extended version for the Royal Premiere.

Are you looking for ways to improve your relationship with your spouse? Here are a few healthy habits of happy couples, according to the Times of India.

#1 Go to bed at the same time

Remember the early days of your relationship when you couldn’t wait to get into bed with each other to make love? Happy couples resist the temptation to go to bed at different times. They go to bed at the same time, even if one wakes up later to do things while their partner sleeps.

#2 Cultivate common interests

After the passion simmers, it is common to realise that you have few interests in common. Try to home in on those common interests and do things together and enjoy each other's company at the same time. Don’t underestimate the importance of couple activities, however few they are.
If common interests are absent, happy couples take time to develop them. But be sure to cultivate interests of your own; this will make you more interesting to your mate and prevent you from appearing too dependent.

#3 Walk hand in hand or side by side

Rather than one partner lagging or dragging behind the other, happy couples walk comfortably hand in hand or side by side. They know it’s more important to be with their partner than to see the sights along the way.

#4 Make trust and forgiveness a default mode

Whenever there is a misunderstanding or when two cannot agree on an issue, do you bear grudges and build up ammunition against each other?
Refrain from doing that as it only makes solving problems difficult.
If a disagreement or an argument cannot be resolved, happy couples default to trusting and forgiving and reset the relationship from there, instead of keeping count of faults.

#5 Focus more on what your partner does right than what he or she does wrong

If you look for things your partner does wrong, you can always find something. If you look for what he or she does right, you can always find something, too. It all depends on what you want to look out for and focus on. Happy couples accentuate the positive and affirm that in each other.

#6 Hug each other as soon as you see each other after work

Our skin has a memory of “good touch” (loved), “bad touch” (abused) and “no touch” (neglected).
Couples who say hello with a hug keep their skin bathed in the “good touch” can inoculate your spirit against anonymity in the world. One is reassured of love and belonging.

#7 Say “I love you” and “Have a good day” every morning

This is a great way to buy some patience and tolerance as each partner sets out each day to battle traffic jams, long lines and other annoyances.

#8 Say “Good night” every night, regardless of how you feel

This tells your partner that, regardless of how upset you are with him or her, you still want to be in the relationship. It says that what you and your partner have is bigger than any single upsetting incident.

#9 Do a “weather” check during the day

Call your partner at home or at work to see how his or her day is going. This is a great way to adjust expectations so that you’re more in sync when you connect after work. For instance, if your partner is having a lousy day, it might be unreasonable to expect him or her to be enthusiastic about something good that happened to you.

#10 Be proud to be seen with your partner

Happy couples are pleased to be seen together and are often in some kind of affectionate contact - hand on hand or hand on shoulder or back. They are not showing off but rather just saying that they belong with each other.
The worst thing to do is to forget to introduce your partner when you bump into a friend or colleague when you're out about town. This sends the wrong signal to your partner that he is not your significant other and you are embarrassed to show him or her off to others.

Happy couples have different habits than unhappy couples.

A habit is a discrete behaviour that you do automatically and that takes little effort to maintain. All it takes is 21 days of daily repetition of a new behaviour so that it becomes a habit. So select one of the behaviours in the list above to work on proactively for 21 days to cultivate a habit that will make you happier as a couple.

And if you fall off the wagon, don’t despair, just apologise to your partner, ask their forgiveness and recommit yourself to getting back in the habit.

Alright i know the blogger video function is quite crap.. Or perhaps i should just be honest, it is rubbish. So here is a proper video in HD of the Alice music video from youtube.

Apart from that, here is another video from the scenes of the world premiere of the movie at London where all the cast were present.

Unfortunately, the movie will be launched in Singapore on 3rd March. It is in the midst of my prelims.

Dratz.

That means I can only catch it after my last paper which is on the 12 of March.
Hope it will be a good one though =)

Avril has a new song and it is for Disney!!

Quote from her "

Alice

From Avril Lavigne

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to check in and share a bit of what's going on with me right now. I am so excited! I feel very lucky to be a part of Tim Burton's new film Alice In Wonderland.

It all started off with me designing an Abbey Dawn/Alice In Wonderland collaboration for my fashion line at Kohls. I was working at the Disney offices going though graphic images from the movie for my designs and getting up to speed on the movie project. I was really inspired and excited about the film at that moment, so I asked Disney if they would like me to write the theme song for the film. They went back to Tim and he said yeah give it a go.

I was so excited when I got the news! I sat down on my piano immediately and wrote the song. I wanted to come up with something a little on the moodier side to fit his film. I think the piano adds a cool dramatic element to the song.

I met with Tim Burton and he played me some clips from his film. I finished the song and he really liked it and said he wanted to put it in the film as the first end credit song. OMG soooo cool! Hehe. Disney also wanted to use it as there marketing song around the film and so I shot a music video. So fun!!!!!

Working on this project was such a treat! It was such a great experience and Tim Burton was an absolute pleasure. He is very smart. I am so grateful for this opportunity...and can't wait to see the whole film!!!!

Love,
Avril xo

Avril and Disney. For these reasons, i will catch this movie definitely =)
Leaving you with Avril's music video for Alice in Wonderland.

Enjoy

Alice Lyrics

Trippin out
Spinning around
I'm underground
I fell down
Yeah I fell down

I'm freaking out, where am I now?
Upside down and I can't stop it now
Can't stop me now, oh oh

I, I'll get by
I, I'll survive
When the world's crashing down
When I fall and hit the ground
I will turn myself around
Don't you try to stop me
I, I won't cry

I found myself in Wonderland
Get back on my feet, on the ground
Is this real?
Is this pretend?
I'll take a stand until the end

I, I'll get by
I, I'll survive
When the world's crashing down
When I fall and hit the ground
I will turn myself around
Don't you try to stop me
I, I won't cry

I, I'll get by
I, I'll survive
When the world's crashing down
When I fall and hit the ground
I will turn myself around
Don't you try to stop me
I, and I won't cry

Chinese New Year came and left. This year's CNY wasn't exactly festive. In fact, ever since I gotten myself into this school, Chinese New Year has turned less of a festive celebration but more to a warning. Simply because after CNY, comes the "war".

Life is going to be miserable here on. When I said war, I meant prelims and finals. We all know the infamous difficulty of the UOL examinations. It is tough for a simple point; it weights 100% per paper. Meaning the finals determines if you pass, or fail. So if you aren't feeling well on that day or you are not at your best condition, you are screwed. In the event you fail, you have to repeat the whole damn entire year and pay your school fees, exam fees, go through the same books, see your same lecturers, etcetera.

In this school, constrained to the London semester, after CNY comes the prelims followed by revision classes by London lecturers as well as your local familiar ones. They will be going through your syllabus and comment on the prelims. After all of that, the horrific finals are next.

I know my exam time table already. It is going to be tough even before I get there. Because, unfortunately, I have a day with 2 papers squeezed together. One paper in the morning and another in the afternoon. And they are both very condensed modules. And another paper the following day. No breather. This is really depressing and taxing.

As so, CNY has really lost it's magic. Probably until the day I leave this school, CNY's magic isn't here.

All time favourite

Bought this at the school's bazaar for $1.60. It is quite nice for chocolate lovers :)

I haven't been active on my blog. Reason being that there was too many issues I need to handle. To my visitors, I am sorry for wasting your effort. But here is one..

Recently I gotten an important role in my team. I wasn’t really expecting my current role would come to me and this gave me a big pressure. I want to do a good job.

Therefore the things I do now are hopefully to bring the club to a greater level. Firstly, the school only recognizes results. That is just like what you would expect if you enter the practical and realistic work force. Thus we changed the team to full-fledged competitive. Else, nothing we request from the school would be approved and the club would be just a stagnant place for a group of people to gather and nothing further. No new toys, no nothing.

To progress, we have to shed blood, sweat and tears. I am all in for it. I will burst my brains and muscles for it. Of course there are resistors to changes, something we can find in one of the modules I having in school with the freaky thickest notes of all. In fact, it is similar or even thicker than the phone directory that Starhub sends me annually.

Okay, I am digressing.

Apart from that, there were administrations with the school, and management issues to do. All a sudden, I am not plainly just doing canoeing anymore. Naturally there were questions about the management issues also. But nothing can pleases anyone. As some would say, “Take it or leave it”.

We had a training camp early last month to prepare for a marathon. That was when I encountered my first knee injury. Subsequently I wasn’t able to perform in running exercises. That was when I knew this injury wasn’t simple and it would not recover easily like my past injuries. I am depressed. This meant I cannot run with the team. I had to sit somewhere and watch them enjoyed the sufferings while I suffered my enjoyments. Just yesterday, a fellow teammate, with the same injury, passed me a name card of a Chinese physician. I might be visiting if my budget allows.

Next up on my schedule would be nothing else but the exams. I am still partially attached to canoeing although I know it is critical for me to ground myself to solely revisions. I think the attachment was effective because of my heavy role.

Chinese New Year is just in a few days time but seriously it seems unimportant to me. The only thing that is anticipating is probably the small bonus :)

2009 year end festive season was smashing. Loads of great activities and gatherings. Christmas was heartwarming thanks to 2 dinners at friends' place as well as movies and simple games. New Year's eve was packed that I could hardly breathe. And also because of that the hangover was massive.

I did however made a wrong decision. The last event on new year's eve did not went very well. I should have given it a miss and carried on staying over with the rest of the old friends although it cost more. A clown can delight an entire crowd but an idiot can also dampen the party.

2010 started off more importantly with my club's AGM and the assumption of the new executive committee members to manage the club for the brand new year. I was made part of it. After that, immediately we got things cracking with briefing from the previous members of the rough idea of our duties. Followed that we did a training camp to prepare the rest of he members for an upcoming marathon.

In between, there's also payment for the upcoming academic exams. We got to make a trip to RELC to pay a huge amount of money. So far everything went pretty swiftly.

The first half of the year for my university was the most critical and crucial period. We have to work very hard on our studies for the finals in May. That's the thing to focus on hopefully after the marathon and it is also the most effort demand for this year.

Let 2010 be a good year fixed and disciplined strictly to plan without any deviation.
